5 Tips to a Great Blog Design

5 Tips to a Great Blog Design

It seems pretty easy to build a site and start blogging, - just pick a themeand design, select a web hosting service, then hit the 'publish' button when it's all set and ready to go. But if success is your goal, you'll have to do a bit more thinking than that, no matter if you blog out of hobby, to share your thoughts and stories, or to build a following for your blogging business.

Following are five simple, yet very effective tips to have in mind when creating (or redesigning) your blog. Please share your comments below. I'd love to know your thoughts and suggestions.

1. Rich media should be at a minimum.

If you go overboard it will start causing problems. People have not come to your blog to watch a loud-playing video ad, or to be constantly distracted by all sorts of animations and visual content. They'll leave your pages, bounce off, never to return. And the more the media, the longer the loading time, especially if it's notwell-optimized.

2. Stick to simple designs.

Not everything on the page should scream for attention. You'll only get the opposite effect. Black-and-white designs give space to highlight the colorful tool bars, buttons and useful components that users would look for. Too many colors, fonts, and headings make the blog confusing, and deter visitors from getting to know you better.

3. Don't forget the About Page.

Visitors who find your content interesting and useful would like to know more about you, your interests and passion for blogging. Use this opportunity to make the connection more personal. Include an About tab on your blog to introduce yourself. Don't go into details, just craft a simple statement of who you are and what the blog is for.

4. Consider your audience.

You can't go with a pink background if you target men, or use a text-heavy design full of rich media if you expect older people to visit you. Knowing your audience needs and wants is essential to having a successful blog. Never lose yourself and your initial drive to blogging, but try to get closer to who your readers are, where they are, or what are they reading you on.

5. Keep pages short and simple.

No one wants tons of scrolling just to find a bit of information on a site, and reading gets exhausting when pages are too long and overloaded with content. Remember to keep your blog design short, clean and simple, but don't forget to add these 10 Essential Ingredients of a Great Blog Design.
